David Pop Kitsch

David Cumps was born on August 20, 1968, in Brussels and is a Belgian artist known for his work in the "Pop Kitsch" movement. A self-taught artist, he draws inspiration from iconic figures such as the Mona Lisa, Superman, and Star Wars heroes, bringing a unique and humorous touch to his creations.

His creative process begins with pencil drawings on paper, which are then inked and digitized. He colors his works digitally before printing them in 3D, painting them with acrylics, cutting them out, and mounting them on canvas.

Among his most notable creations is "Alfons", a Brussels-based character symbolizing universal childhood, offering a tender and humorous perspective on everyday life.

Pop Kitsch is an artistic movement that blends Pop Art with a kitsch aesthetic, incorporating elements of popular culture with a humorous, bold, and colorful approach. Inspired by advertising, media icons, and everyday objects, it plays with exaggeration and the reinterpretation of classic or mainstream references.

Artists in the Pop Kitsch movement reimagine iconic figures (such as the Mona Lisa, superheroes, or cartoon characters) by transforming them with vibrant colors, 3D effects, or unexpected materials. This style aims both to captivate and to spark reflection on consumer society and the cult of imagery.

Artists like David Cumps perfectly embody this movement, creating works that mix nostalgia, humor, and contemporary techniques.
David Cumps and Silvano Rapaglia have joined forces to offer Pop Kitsch enthusiasts unique and original artworks. This collaboration allows them to present innovative paintings that reimagine pop culture icons with a modern and humorous approach. Together, they combine their talents to bring bold creations to life, blending vibrant colors, diverse techniques, and iconic references to captivate collectors and fans of this artistic universe.
